An employee of the Ak-Suu Electric Distribution Network has been detained in the Issyk-Kul region, suspected of extorting a bribe, according to information provided by the press service of the State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The calculation engineer, known as K.M.A., was detained on January 29 during an investigation related to corruption in the energy sector of the region.
Preliminary data indicates that K.M.A. demanded money from entrepreneurs providing tourist services in the Ak-Suu district in exchange for reducing a fine for the absence of a seal on the electricity meter.
The collected evidence allowed for the detention of K.M.A., who is now in the temporary detention facility of the city police department of Karakol for up to 48 hours while the investigation continues.
