Nurlan Jarkeev from Kara-Balta received the Order of the Red Star for saving his comrades in Afghanistan — he shared how it happened
Nurlan Jarkeev, a native of Kara-Balta, became one of the few servicemen awarded the "Order of the Red Star" for his feats in Afghanistan without sustaining any injuries. Nurlan, born in 1966 in the village of Kairma (now part of the Jayil district), was drafted into service in 1985 by the Kalinin military enlistment office. His journey began with training in Tajikistan, after which he was sent to Afghanistan, where he served in the ranks of the Soviet army.
