The Attorney General, Maksat Asanaliev, reported at a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh committee that the total amount of damages from completed criminal cases and cases where prosecution was refused amounted to 70 billion 680 million soms. He noted that this entire amount was fully reimbursed to the state budget.
According to him, the most significant portion of the recovered funds was obtained from cases investigated by national security agencies, totaling over 67.9 billion soms. The Ministry of Internal Affairs returned more than 1.4 billion soms, while the military prosecutor's office returned about 884 million soms. Other agencies also returned hundreds of millions of soms, Asanaliev added.
The Attorney General emphasized that in some situations, criminal prosecution was concluded after the voluntary return of property obtained through criminal means.
Furthermore, to improve the quality of investigations, the prosecutor's office sent 90 criminal cases for additional review, while the courts returned another 136 cases for re-examination, he added.
