In Kyrgyzstan, over 8,000 road traffic accidents were registered in 2025, as reported by the press service of the Main Department for Ensuring Road Safety of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. This information became available on January 19 as a result of analyzing operational activities over the past year.

Among the main factors contributing to traffic accidents are speeding, improper maneuvers, crossing into oncoming traffic while overtaking, driving under the influence of alcohol, as well as failure to observe priority at intersections and ignoring road signs and distances.

At an operational meeting attended by Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Oktay Urmambetov, Head of the Internal Investigations Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Ulan Biibosunov, and Head of the Main Department for Ensuring Road Safety Azembek Kozukeev, as well as leaders of various departments of the Main Department for Ensuring Road Safety, both successes and shortcomings of the work over the year were discussed.

During the meeting, attention was drawn to the need to update approaches in planning activities to avoid repeating previous strategies and to adapt to modern requirements. The importance of quality service for traffic inspectors, who are under constant public scrutiny, was also emphasized. Participants were instructed to engage more actively in digitalization and strengthen cooperation with local authorities.

Furthermore, the meeting participants noted that there is a need to enhance control over the issuance of licenses to taxi drivers and to take additional measures to prevent road traffic accidents.

As a result of the meeting, instructions were given to address the identified shortcomings in official activities, and disciplinary measures were applied to a number of employees.
