In 2025, Bishkek achieved an important success in solving the waste disposal problem. This was reported by the city mayor, Aibek Junushaliev, in a podcast by the agency "Kabar."
According to him, the construction of a waste recycling plant had long remained an unresolved issue, despite the adoption of numerous resolutions. Previous attempts to address this problem were accompanied by criminal cases and the detention of officials.
Junushaliev also recalled the unsuccessful experience when 22 million euros were spent improperly. "This time, Bishkek did not allocate a single penny from the budget for construction. We found an investor who invested 95 million dollars and built the plant," he noted.
Currently, the plant has already processed 49 thousand tons of waste.
In addition, the mayor spoke about plans for the reclamation of the old landfill. During the opening of the new plant, President Sadyr Japarov discussed with the general director the possibility of eliminating the accumulated waste, known as the "garbage mountain." The general director of the plant assured the president that the recycling of this waste is possible, and work will begin soon.
The mayor also added that as a result of the creation of one plant, three more have been built and launched.
