In an interview with the "Kabar" agency, he described this project as unique for the capital, noting that such an experience is new for Bishkek.
According to the mayor, the underground construction site was leased for the first time, and the auction for it concluded with a price of 7 million soms per year. The total cost of the entire project is approximately 2 billion soms. Junushaliev emphasized that the implementation of such projects requires significant effort, but expressed confidence that the work will be completed within three months.
Additionally, the mayor responded to criticism from citizens who were curious as to why the city hall did not notice the construction of a third floor of the building and the dismantling of the fountain near the TSUM.
“These objects are located on private property. The area with the fountain belongs to TSUM, and the building with the additional floor belongs to GUM,”
— he explained. “Since these are private lands, we did not have the right to interfere with the construction works. We had questions about what was happening, and the designers provided their explanations. However, since we are not construction specialists, these questions did not receive the proper attention. After public criticism, we decided to check the original projects and compare them with the current works.”Now all work is being brought into compliance with the approved project, and the main focus is on the underground passage, the mayor noted.
