In this message, the agency reminded that according to paragraph 6 of part 6 of article 6 of the Law "On Road Transport," it is prohibited to use vehicles with right-hand steering for commercial passenger and cargo transportation.
This regulation came into effect on January 1, 2020, after amendments were made to the legislation. The Main Directorate for Road Traffic Safety noted that the ban on the use of such vehicles was in place even before the introduction of taxi licensing.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs emphasized that this decision is aimed at improving road traffic safety. According to statistics, over the past ten years, 21,159 road traffic accidents involving right-hand drive vehicles have been registered, resulting in 34,656 injuries and 2,366 fatalities.
Moreover, about 60 percent of all accidents were caused by the actions of drivers of right-hand drive cars.
The Main Directorate for Road Traffic Safety urges citizens to comply with existing legal norms and once again reminds that licenses for right-hand drive vehicles to provide taxi services will not be issued.
