Historical Figures of Pishpek Before the Renaming of the City to Frunze.


Dedicated to Dr. Andrey Nikolaevich Denisov, who has done so much for the restoration of historical photographs of the city of Pishpek-Frunze-Bishkek.

Mikhail Alexandrovich Folbaum. 1866 - 1916. In 1908 - Governor of the Semirechye Region, Commander of the troops there and punitive ataman of the Semirechye Cossack Army.

Alexander Alexandrovich Freze. June 17, 1840 - no earlier than March 1918. Russian General of Infantry, participant in the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878, member of the State Council of the Russian Empire. From April 23 to October 1, 1864, he was with Colonel M.G. Chernyaev for geognostic studies beyond the Chu and Syr Darya rivers. As part of the Abramov A.K. detachment, Lieutenant Freze was sent to search for mineral deposits. He discovered deposits of rock salt in the vicinity of Pishpek, conducted a geological survey of the Alexandrovsky Ridge and ore deposits in the Kara-Tau mountains. Together with Severtsov, he discovered abandoned lead mines and coal deposits, and conducted topographic surveys of the area.

Valentin Vasilyevich Romanov 1876 - 1910. Date on the photo - May 18, 1895. Worked as a veterinarian in the active army, was a participant in the Russo-Japanese War.

Jan Paklevsky-Kozell. Polish insurgent, participated in the inspection of the road from Verny to Pishpek through the Sarimsakty gorge (Kurdai) in 1872.

Aleksey Vladimirovich Poyarkov 1876. As a military doctor, less than two years later he would move to the still-emerging Pishpek and make a remarkable description of our city in the summer of 1878.

Iskak Daulbaev was an orphan, but became one of the richest merchants of Pishpek. He was known for his philanthropy, and with his money a mosque was built, which stood between the Opera and Ballet Theater and the Hyatt Hotel until 1966. The former Moscow Street bore his name (see map). His house was on the former Soviet Street, at the site of the Toktogul monument.
