STREET - A RELIC

In the city of Frunze, there is Pushkin Street. We will tell you about the part of it that runs from Soviet Street to Panfilov Street. It passes by the monument to the Fighters of the Revolution, along the southern side of Dubovy Park and the central square, past the monument to F.E. Dzerzhinsky and the Friendship Monument. There are no residential buildings on it. There is the former House of the Union of Writers and the building of the Historical Museum of the Kirghiz SSR. It features a cascade of fountains with flowerbeds stretching for an entire block.

On the northern side, "Friendship Alley" adjoins the street. A plaque is mounted on red granite: "Friendship Alley" was established in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Kirghiz SSR and the Communist Party of Kyrgyzstan." The trees were planted by the leaders of delegations from fraternal republics that arrived for the celebration.

Until March 1937, the street was called Tatar Street. To the east of Krasnooktabrskaya Street, it had been predominantly settled by Tatars since pre-revolutionary times and did not differ from all the other streets in the city.

In 1927, it was destined to become the socio-political and administrative center of the city. That year, the building of the Central Executive Committee of the Kirghiz ASSR was completed between Civil, May Day, and Dzerzhinsky Streets - as it was long called (architect A.P. Zenkov).

The ceremonial laying of the building took place on May 1, 1926. Communards from the Czechoslovak production cooperative "Intergelpo" participated in the laying and construction. The first stone in the foundation of the building was laid by the Chairman of the Oblispolkom of KirAO, Orozbekov. At the meeting, an address to future generations was adopted, which, along with newspapers from those days - "Krestyanskij put" and "Erkin Too" - was placed in a metal box and sealed in the foundation on the northern side.

The building of the Central Executive Committee immediately changed the appearance of this area. On the northern side, Red Square adjoined the street, which at that time was simply a large wasteland. For about ten years, festive demonstrations, parades, and rallies were held on this square and street. A mourning rally of workers dedicated to the death of M.V. Frunze took place there, where the decision to rename the city of Pishpek to Frunze was made.

In the new, just-built building, the Constituent Congress of the Councils of the Kirghiz ASSR took place from March 7 to 12, 1927. A total of 231 delegates attended the congress. Among them were 115 Kyrgyz, 72 Russians, 19 Uzbeks, 8 Uighurs, 2 Kazakhs, 2 Dungans, and 13 delegates of other nationalities. 192 delegates were members and candidates of the party, and 7 were members of the Komsomol. Among the delegates, there were 4 people with higher education, 31 with secondary education, 176 with primary education, 12 semi-literate, and 8 illiterate.

The congress was greeted by the Chairman of the USSR Central Executive Committee M.I. Kalinin. The resolution of the 3rd session of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee from November 18, 1926, on the transformation of the Kirghiz Autonomous Region into the Kirghiz Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic was announced. The congress then adopted the Declaration "On the Formation of the Kirghiz Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic," discussed and adopted resolutions "On the Introduction of Universal Education," "On the Introduction of a New Alphabet," "On National Formations," "On the Struggle Against Wealth, Manapism, and Kulakism," elected A. Orozbekov as the Chairman of the Central Executive Committee of the Kirghiz ASSR, and a delegate to the All-Russian Congress of Soviets.

The congress was an important political event in the history of the Kyrgyz people. Its decisions outlined the paths for further economic and cultural development of the republic.

The Central Executive Committee and the Soviet of People's Commissars of the Kirghiz ASSR worked in this building until November 1936. After the government moved to new premises, various government institutions were housed in the building of the Central Executive Committee, including (since 1943) the Kyrgyz branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences and the Academy of Sciences of the Kirghiz SSR.

In 1967, the Historical and Zoological Museums moved here. In 1969, the interior of the building was renovated. The Historical Museum has more than 25,000 exhibits - documents, photographs, items, models, and paintings representing the history of Kyrgyzstan from ancient times to the present day, displayed in 45 exhibition halls.

There is always a crowd at the museum entrance. Buses with tourists arrive one after another.

In the second half of the 1970s, the Union of Writers of Kyrgyzstan was located in a two-story building opposite Dubovy Park. In 1986, the Union moved to the former building of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Kirghiz SSR. The editorial offices of the weekly "Kyrgyzstan Madeniyati" and the magazine "Literary Kyrgyzstan" were located in that building.
