Seven artificial glaciers have been built in the Batken region

Construction of seven artificial glaciers has been completed in the Batken region as part of a project aimed at addressing the water shortage issue.

According to the press service of the presidential representative, the new glaciers are located in villages such as Gaz, Sogment, Bulak-Bashy, Kainy, Aibiyke, Kok-Tash, and Sumbula.

An important meeting took place between representatives of the local administration led by Azizbek Adylbekov and an international delegation that included the Consul General of Russia in Osh, Roman Svistin, as well as specialists from the FAO and OSCE. The parties discussed the implementation of sustainable practices in the context of climate change, water resource management, and aspects of improving irrigation. As a result of the meeting, a decision was made to extend the experience of creating glaciers to other areas of the region.

During the delegation's visit, the Aina-Tash gorge in the village of Sumbula was also inspected, where the performance of the existing glacier and the reserves of accumulated water were assessed. The technology for creating artificial glaciers allows for water accumulation in winter, which ensures the possibility of irrigating fields during drought periods in spring and summer.

As a result of the winter season, the glaciers in the region managed to collect over 1.5 million cubic meters of water.

The project, implemented with the support of international partners, contributes to providing farmers with stable irrigation and promotes economic development in the context of climate change.
