Digestive problems and potential weight gain are what can happen due to a heavy dinner taken shortly before sleep, as reported by RIA Novosti, citing the opinion of medical science candidate Olga Yamileva.
According to the specialist, "a heavy dinner late in the evening can lead to excessive strain on the gastrointestinal organs, which, in turn, increases the risks of developing conditions such as heartburn and reflux — the backflow of stomach contents into the esophagus."
Moreover, she added that such a dinner can negatively affect sleep quality, and in the morning one may face fatigue and swelling.
Yamileva recommends that dinner should be light for digestion and take place 2.5-3 hours before nighttime rest.
