In the "Unusual Names" section, we introduce you to Rudbek Abdyraev, who lives in the village of Kum-Bel, located in the Naryn region.

This man, born in 1955, claims that his name is the only one of its kind in Kyrgyzstan.

“I was born into a family of a miner. A colleague of my father, who was Russian, gave me my name. He suggested the name Rud, and my father added the Kyrgyz suffix ‘Bek’ to it. Thus, I became the only Rudbek in the country,” he shares.

When Rudbek was a child, the famous Kyrgyz writer and publicist Kenesh Jusupov would visit them. He often asked why he was given such a name.

Later, Jusupov used the name Rudbek in his work "Күлгүн курак," which was particularly pleasing for him,” Abdyraev recounts.

He also mentioned that he frequently encounters comical situations because of his name.

“Once we were traveling to Jeti-Oguz with the chairman of the district executive committee and his wife. She just couldn’t remember my name,” he says.
“When we arrived, the host was called Kombayn. On the way back, the chairman’s wife again noted that my name was hard to remember, and I replied, ‘Well, look at Issyk-Kul — there are Kombayns and Tractors. Compared to them, my name is nothing,’” Rudbek recalled with a smile.

Rudbek Abdyraev worked for 51 years in public service, the last ten of which he spent in the environmental technical safety inspection.
