In Saudi Arabia, at the Asian Cycling Championships, Igor Filin from Kyrgyzstan won a gold medal, as reported by the Cycling Federation of Kyrgyzstan.
According to the federation, the competition took place in the Masters 60–64 category over a distance of 62.4 km.
This achievement is historic, as it marks the first time Kyrgyzstan has won gold in a road race since gaining independence. This medal is also the fifth gold award for the country at the Asian Road Cycling Championships.
Previously, gold at continental championships was brought by Yevgeny Vakker in 2007, 2008, 2011, and 2012 in individual races.
“Igor Filin's victory is of particular significance for the development of cycling in Kyrgyzstan. This result confirms the competitiveness of Kyrgyz athletes at the continental level and highlights the high level of training even in the masters categories. The gold medal in the road race has become a symbol of the sustainable development of domestic cycling and its potential on the international stage,” the federation's statement noted.
