Where is the Chingiz Aitmatov Museum located?


The Ch. Aitmatov Museum is located in the village of Sheker in the Talas region, not far from the border with Uzbekistan. In this village, the famous writer Chingiz Torokulovich Aitmatov was born in 1928 and lived for nearly two decades. The museum is situated in an old house where the great son of the Kyrgyz people spent his childhood and youth. In this same village, at the age of 14, Chingiz Aitmatov became the secretary of the village council.

The museum dedicated to the life and work of Chingiz Aitmatov in the writer's native village of Sheker was opened back in 1978, in honor of the writer's fiftieth anniversary, and has become a local landmark. The museum displays over 1,000 exhibits, including original manuscripts and articles, favorite books, as well as numerous photographs.

A separate exhibition in the museum is dedicated to the history of the Aitmatov family and the writer's parents.

Chingiz Aitmatov was a Soviet writer and literary figure, involved in several cultural institutions. He worked for the Literary Newspaper, was a member of the Union of Soviet Writers, and led the Kyrgyz Union of Directors for 20 years.
