The Spread of Choreographic Art. The History of Kyrgyz Folk Dance. Part 10
The Spread of Choreographic Art
A deep interest in the art of choreography has given rise to new forms—creative associations of dance enthusiasts. The experience of Novosibirsk's "Terpsichore" is well known—a club for lovers of choreographic art, whose members not only study the art of dance practically but also hold various meetings with artists from Soviet and foreign ballet theaters, leading choreographers-folklorists, musicians, and artists. Here, important and interesting issues for contemporaries are raised and discussed.
Currently, a movement of dance enthusiasts is gaining momentum in the country. The "Center for the Promotion of Choreography" has been established in Baku, the "Arabesque" association in Gorky, a ballet lovers' club in Leningrad, the "Dance Association" in Riga, the "Gallery" association in Sverdlovsk, and a ballet lovers' association in Chelyabinsk. The Perm Society of Lovers of Choreographic Art "Arabesque," founded in 1986, presents a broad constructive action program. The society conducts various exhibition activities (regional, nationwide, and international), organizes excursion work, creates schools for ballet enthusiasts, holds express competitions for young ballet artists from the Urals and Siberia, revives benefit performances, conducts ballet evenings, including the cycle "Theater of the Peoples of the USSR," organizes All-Union television ballet festivals, and All-Union Diaghilev celebrations dedicated to a prominent figure in Russian and world culture. It is also involved in the creation of a ballet museum named after Sergei Diaghilev, actively participates in international competitions, fosters international contacts with ballet theater figures, and engages in diverse publishing activities, including the release of the newspaper "Ballet of the Urals."
At a meeting of ballet enthusiasts from across the country in May 1989, attended by 84 representatives from 42 cities and towns, an appeal was made to the lovers of choreographic art in the country, calling for the creation of a nationwide society of ballet lovers that would unite all true connoisseurs of this beautiful art and actively address the aesthetic issues of education and upbringing of Soviet people.
We believe that uniting the interests of professionals and amateurs, understanding the spiritual world of each nation, and seeing and feeling the beauty and diversity can significantly benefit from a detailed acquaintance and comprehension of the artistic nature of each nation. In this sense, a detailed acquaintance with the musical-plastic culture will only deepen and expand our understanding of reality.
We hope that the introduction of ballet art enthusiasts to Kyrgyz dances will help them more accurately reproduce the character, manner, and dance style of Kyrgyz choreography.
