Health is the greatest wealth
One man, driven to complete despair by his poverty, decided to end his life. In a distressed state, he headed to the nearest mountains to jump off a high cliff. On the way, he encountered an old man who immediately noticed something was wrong and spoke to the poor fellow.
- Where are you in such a hurry, my son?
- I am a beggar. My days are spent in a joyless struggle for survival, and I have no strength left to endure it. Now I am going to the mountains to end my life.
- Yes, I understand you. I have a problem too. I am half-blind. Perhaps you could give me one of your eyes. In return, I will give you a horse.
- But I would be left without an eye! Is my sight worth so little?
- Then why do you value your life so little? You have a healthy body; you see, hear, think, and speak. The most important treasure is life and health. Everything else can be found or earned. Leave your thoughts of suicide behind. There is no one in the world richer than you. Remember that.
When do you think
An elder noticed that a man passed by his house every day early in the morning and late in the evening. From the people, the elder learned that this man was a blacksmith and that he was going to work. One day, the elder spoke to him.
- Assalamu alaikum. I heard that you are a blacksmith.
- That is true.
- I noticed that you leave very early every day and return very late. So, you work until late in the evening?
- Yes, that is correct.
- But I see you passing by my house every day. So, you work on weekends and holidays too?
- Yes, elder, I work on Saturdays and Sundays, and on holidays.
- My son, your diligence is commendable. But when do you think and reflect on your life?
