
On January 26, the Development Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic signed an agreement to finance the construction of the "Kulanak" hydropower plant in the Naryn region.
According to information provided by the bank, the hydropower plant will be located in the village of Kulanak on the Naryn River. The installed capacity of the plant will be 100 MW, and the expected annual electricity generation will be 435 million kWh. This will reduce the country's energy deficit by 11%.
This project will bring a number of benefits:
Strengthening Kyrgyzstan's position in the regional electricity market;
Reducing the energy sector's and the country's economy's dependence on fluctuations in fuel prices;
Increasing revenues for local and national budgets;
Creating up to 100 new permanent jobs in the region;
Expanding the area of irrigated land in the Kulanak Valley.
