
As of the end of 2024, the volume of the shadow economy in Kyrgyzstan is estimated at 308 billion soms, according to information provided by the National Statistical Committee.
This figure is 0.3 percentage points higher than in 2023, accounting for 19.5% of the country's gross domestic product.
In recent years, there has been a steady growth in the absolute indicators of the shadow economy. For example, in 2020, this figure was 128.9 billion soms, which increased to 256.5 billion soms in 2023, and reached 308 billion soms in 2024.
However, the share of the hidden economy in the gross domestic product decreased from 4.5% to 3.8% compared to the previous year. At the same time, the share of informal production activities in households increased from 14.7% in 2023 to 15.7% in 2024.
The main sectors of the shadow economy in 2024 are distributed as follows:
- wholesale and retail trade, including services for the repair of cars and motorcycles — 11.2% of GDP;
- manufacturing industry — 2.6%;
- construction — 1.7%;
- transport services — 1.1%;
- hotel and restaurant business — 0.9%.
