AgroDialogue – 2026. Gardeners are switching to a new variety of plum to increase yield and income

At the forum "AgroDialogue – 2026," an important topic was raised regarding the need to update plum varieties. In recent years, gardeners have faced problems related to outdated varieties, and this has become particularly relevant for the "Hungarian" variety, which has lost its competitiveness in both domestic and international markets, leading to a sharp decline in its market value, according to data from the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Food Processing Industry.

In response to this situation, producers decided to import new, more productive plum varieties. The focus has shifted to the "Stanley" variety, which has demonstrated excellent results in yield and marketable qualities, as well as stable demand in the market.

Since the beginning of 2025, the "Stanley" variety has shown stable productivity over a period of 9–10 years. The successful realization of the harvested crop has helped to cover costs and labor expenditures, making it a more profitable option compared to the "Hungarian," as confirmed by comparative analysis.

Based on these results, farmers are making the decision to gradually transition to cultivating the "Stanley" variety. In the coming years, their main goal will be to expand planting areas, develop nurseries, and distribute seedlings among agrarians, as well as create a regional brand for this variety.

The "Stanley" variety is well-suited for the commercial market due to its high yield, ease of handling, and transport resistance.
