The program to improve electricity generation continues in the Kyrgyz Republic, under which outdated hydro units are being updated, according to the Ministry of Energy. The Uch-Kurgan hydroelectric power station is one of the priority facilities where preparations are underway for the installation of modern equipment. Currently, 47.3% of the components for hydro unit No. 2 have arrived at the station's warehouse, and most of the systems are already fully equipped.
At the moment, active dismantling and preparatory work is being carried out at the Uch-Kurgan HPP. In particular, the disassembly of the turbine's runner chamber is being performed on hydro unit No. 2, while specialists are dismantling the turbine shaft and disassembling auxiliary equipment, including 10.5 kV busbars, on the first unit. All dismantled elements are carefully moved to the station's warehouses.
More than 80 professionals are involved in the project, working on the modernization of the hydro units.
It should be noted that the updates at the Uch-Kurgan HPP began in 2024, and the modernization of hydro units No. 3 and No. 4 has already been successfully completed.
In 2026, reconstruction is simultaneously being carried out on units No. 1 and No. 2, with plans to complete the work by the end of the current year.
According to the department, after the modernization is completed, the installed capacity of the hydroelectric power station will increase from 198 MW to 216 MW, and the service life of the main equipment will be extended by decades, ensuring greater reliability and efficiency of the station's operation.
