Work is underway on the modernization project of the Uch-Kurgan HPP, as reported by the Ministry of Energy of Kyrgyzstan. The contractor CNEEC is actively engaged in completing tasks within the framework of the second package.
Currently, preparatory and engineering-technical works for both units have already begun. The commissioning of hydro unit No. 2 is scheduled for February 1, 2026, and hydro unit No. 1 for March 1, 2026.
At present, welding works are being carried out on the stator rods and the assembly of the rotor spokes for hydro unit No. 2, using defectoscopic control. Simultaneously, project and technical preparation for hydro unit No. 1 is being conducted.
All work will be carried out in strict accordance with the schedule, as well as taking into account technical requirements and safety standards, the ministry reports.
The parallel reconstruction of the hydro units will ensure a phased increase in the installed capacity of the station. As a result of the reconstruction, completed in 2025, the capacity of the Uch-Kurgan HPP has already increased by 18 MW, and by the end of 2026, the total increase will amount to 36 MW, notes the Ministry of Energy.
According to the ministry, the modernization of the Uch-Kurgan HPP is aimed at enhancing the reliability and efficiency of hydropower equipment, as well as ensuring sustainable and long-term operation of the station.
