At the Uch-Kurgan Hydroelectric Power Station, a branch of OJSC “Electric Stations,” the modernization of two hydro units is simultaneously underway, as reported by the Ministry of Energy of Kyrgyzstan.

Currently, the dismantling of hydro unit No. 2 is 90% complete, while the dismantling of hydro unit No. 1 has just begun. Specialists are preparing for the complete removal of outdated equipment to install new hydro units.

The power station consists of four hydro units, each with an initial capacity of about 45 MW, producing more than 800 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year. After the reconstruction is completed, the capacity of the hydro unit will increase from 180 MW to 216 MW, and the annual electricity generation will exceed 984 million kilowatt-hours. This will make a significant contribution to strengthening the energy security of Kyrgyzstan, as emphasized by the Ministry of Energy. The reconstructed hydro units are expected to be put into operation by the end of 2026.

For reference: The Uch-Kurgan Hydroelectric Power Station is one of the oldest and strategically important hydroelectric stations in the country, located on the Naryn River, and was commissioned in 1962. The station has been continuously operating for over 60 years, providing electricity to the southern region. The old equipment has been in operation for twice as long as originally intended, which was 30-35 years, and requires major reconstruction. The modern modernization will give the station a “second life,” improving its reliability, safety, and efficiency.
