In 2026, it is planned to modernize two hydro units — No. 1 and No. 2 at the Uch-Kurgan HPP. According to the Ministry of Energy, this project is being implemented as part of Package-2, with the general contractor being the Chinese company CNEEC (China National Electric Engineering Co. Ltd.).
The parallel reconstruction of the units will significantly reduce the time required for modernization and increase the overall efficiency of the project. Currently, preparatory and engineering works for both units have begun. The reconstruction of hydro unit No. 2 is scheduled for February 1, 2026, and hydro unit No. 1 for March 1, 2026.
Currently, welding work is being carried out on the stator of hydro unit No. 2, and the assembly of the rotor spokes is underway, followed by non-destructive testing. At the same time, project and technical preparation for hydro unit No. 1 is ongoing.
All work will be carried out in strict accordance with the approved schedule, taking into account all technical requirements and safety standards.
It should be noted that the parallel reconstruction of the units will ensure a phased increase in the installed capacity of the station. As a result of the modernization carried out in 2025, the capacity of the Uch-Kurgan HPP was increased by 18 MW, and by the end of 2026, the total increase will amount to 36 MW.
The goal of the Uch-Kurgan HPP modernization project is to enhance the reliability and efficiency of the equipment, as well as to ensure stable and long-term operation of the station.
