It is expected that the upgrade of two hydro units at the Uch-Kurgan HPP will be completed by the end of 2026. Energy Minister Talaybek Ibraev announced this during his trip to the Jalal-Abad region.

According to him, the reconstruction of the second hydro unit has already been completed. The work began in 2024 with a complete replacement of the first unit, adding 9 MW. The second unit has also been upgraded and launched, with a similar increase in capacity. The remaining two units are planned to be modernized in 2026, which will ultimately increase the capacity of the HPP by 36 MW.

The Uch-Kurgan HPP was launched in 1961.

The first hydro unit was put into operation on December 30, 1961. The complete modernization is expected to be completed by December 2026, 64 years later. Its current capacity is 45 MW.

The second unit, launched on June 3, 1962, will also be modernized by November 2026, 63 years later. Its capacity is 45 MW.

The third hydro unit, launched in September 1962, underwent modernization from March to November 2025, increasing its capacity from 45 to 54 MW.

The fourth unit, put into operation on November 5, 1962, will be modernized from March to November 2024, increasing its capacity from 45 to 54 MW.

Thus, the capacity of the HPP will increase from 180 to 198 megawatts after all upgrades are completed.
