Pickles and Jams
At the fair, visitors could try many types of homemade preparations, lovingly made according to family recipes, and replenish their winter supplies. Guests eagerly sampled pies and washed them down with fragrant tea.
Participants were also happy to share recipes. It is worth noting that besides traditional jams, there were exotic combinations to taste, such as plum with chocolate, gooseberry with orange, kiwi with lemon, and even raspberry with cognac. After receiving recommendations from the masters, one could make such delicious and original jams at home.
- This project started back in June. We restored animal figurines here and improved the area so that local residents would pay attention to the fact that the park in their neighborhood is being taken care of. Previously, this area was abandoned, and parents wouldn't even let their children play here. We tidied up the area and got to know the residents. We encourage everyone to fight for their park. We want to unite the residents with this fair, as it is very important to build a community together. We managed to improve only a small part of it and want the other green areas to be developed as well. This is a problem for many parks in the capital, as the authorities only pay attention to the central parks. Now representatives from various districts can relax here. We planned to hold a district fair, but guests came from all over the city, and we are very happy about that, - said the coordinator of the "Urban Initiatives" project, Aikanish Derbishova.
All the products were presented very originally, and this small fair became a real celebration for everyone present, as various contests and games were also held alongside the trading.
- We sell various jams, all made from berries that grow on the shores of Lake Issyk-Kul. All this product is prepared at home. We offer raspberry and sea buckthorn jam, as well as jams made from black and red currants. But the most popular is barberry jam. People really like it. Indira Temirkanova makes everything by hand, and we are just entering the market; this is only our second fair, - said participant Zhipara Erkulova.
We managed to try many different treats, and we would like to know how to make such masterpieces at home?
- To make watermelon jam, you will need 1 kg of watermelon pulp, vanillin, 1 kg of sugar, and a lemon. If you want to make thick jam, you will need one packet of pectin. You need to remove the rind from the watermelon, including the white part, cut it into cubes, and remove the seeds. Then, place it in a container, sprinkle with sugar, and leave for two hours to let the juice come out. The resulting mass should be placed on the fire and boiled for half an hour after boiling, then let it rest and put it back on the fire. This process needs to be done three times. Before boiling the watermelon for the last time, it should be passed through a blender or sieve, then add lemon juice and vanillin. The jam is ready! - shared the recipe from the hostesses.
It is worth noting that the fair was charitable, and part of the proceeds will go towards further improvement of the "Little Elephants" park area.
