The city of Nookat is located in Kyrgyzstan and is the center of the eponymous district of the Osh region.
It lies in the northeast of the Osh region, 43 kilometers from the city of Osh, where the nearest railway station is located. The airport is also situated in the central regional city of Osh. A road runs through the territory of Nookat in the direction of Osh-Batken-Isfana.
Population (2017) — 15,921 people.
The city is home to representatives of about 50 ethnic groups, including (people): Uzbeks – (87.5%), Kyrgyz – (9.7%), Tatars – (0.7%), Russians – (0.7%), Germans – 3, Dungans – 2, Turks – 8, Tajiks – 7, Kazakhs – 9, Ukrainians – 11, other nationalities – 122.
In Nookat, summers are hot with rare rains, and winters are relatively warm. Spring and autumn are characterized by average precipitation. The altitude above sea level is 1802 meters. The modern city was founded in the first half of the 19th century in 1823 under the name Eski-Nookat. In 2003, the settlement was granted city status and a new name - Nookat.
Historically, there was a lake in the territory of Nookat. The word Nookat from Turkish-Persian means "Nov" — shrub, "Kat" — layered, meaning layered shrub.
One of the youngest cities in the Republic, Nookat is multinational. In peaceful coexistence, Kyrgyz, Tatars, Ukrainians, Dungans, Uzbeks, Turks, and Tajiks live in its territory. The city has enterprises producing furniture and clothing, as well as confectionery and bakery products. Entrepreneurship is well-developed. Small and medium-sized businesses are supported by the authorities of Nookat. Numerous trading organizations operate in the city. There is a branch of the Osh Pedagogical University in the city.
In the settlement of "Jany-Nookat," there is a park called "Sakhoba." In the summer, residents of Kyrgyzstan often visit this park to quench their thirst.
