On April 1, 2015, in Bishkek at the "City hotel," a meeting was held to mark the end of the month-long campaign against tuberculosis (TB) in the Kyrgyz Republic. The meeting brought together leaders of the Family Medicine Centers in Bishkek, specialists from the National Center for Phthisiatry and the capital's anti-tuberculosis service, as well as international partners, during which the latest recommendations from the World Health Organization on the diagnosis and treatment of TB were presented, along with the achievements of the National TB Program of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Representatives from the city administration and the Health Department of Bishkek, as well as the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), were invited to participate in the event.
At this meeting, the best specialists from the city’s anti-tuberculosis service were awarded valuable gifts, and humanitarian aid consisting of medical instruments, medical supplies, and food products worth approximately $200,000 was delivered to the best primary healthcare organizations in Bishkek, provided through the project "We Will Defeat Tuberculosis" via "Resource and Policy Exchange."
The USAID project "We Will Defeat Tuberculosis" started in Kyrgyzstan in November 2014 and aims to reduce the burden of tuberculosis and curb the development of drug-resistant forms, as well as support equitable access to quality TB services.
