This was discussed at a meeting between the Director of the State Personnel Service of the Kyrgyz Republic, A. Karashev, and the representative of the Chevening program Secretariat, Mr. Harish Lokhun, on September 19, 2014.
Mr. Harish Lokhun specially arrived in Kyrgyzstan to explore ways to attract young citizens of Kyrgyzstan to the "Chevening" program.
According to him, the State Personnel Service is a beneficial partner as it works on training the country's civil servants.
He mentioned that the "Chevening" program, sponsored by the UK Foreign Office, provides scholarships to talented young people for study at its prestigious universities.
This year, training under this program is planned at institutions such as Bangor University, Durham University, and the University of Cambridge. The priority areas for training include: public administration, security/conflict prevention, democracy/human rights development, and regional cooperation.
The "Chevening" scholarship includes a monthly stipend, international airfare, a grant for writing a dissertation or thesis, visa expenses, and tuition fees.
A. Karashev stated that the State Personnel Service of the Kyrgyz Republic is pleased to accept the proposal from the project secretariat and is ready to cooperate in implementing the program in the Kyrgyz Republic.
He noted that the "Chevening" program provides a wonderful opportunity for civil servants of Kyrgyzstan to study in a highly developed country like the UK and receive an education that meets global standards.
The State Personnel Service will begin the necessary work to implement the "Chevening" program in the coming days.
