From September 19 to 21, 2014, a seminar on planning the activities of university innovation laboratories and resource centers for multilingual education will be held in the village of Kalmak-Ashuu, Chui region.
Representatives from higher educational institutions – KSU named after I. Arabayev, OshSU, and MUCA will familiarize themselves with the theoretical foundations of multilingual education and discuss practical issues of its implementation in the Kyrgyz Republic during the seminar.
As a result of the seminar, the following will be achieved:
- the potential of the higher education system for training specialists to implement multilingual education programs will be analyzed;
- a plan for the activities of innovation laboratories and resource centers for multilingual education will be developed, including cooperation with pilot schools;
- the directions of work and the format of activities of working groups for preparing programs, educational materials, and analytical reviews in the field of multilingual education and improving second language teaching will be defined.
The seminar is organized by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic (MoES KR) with the support of the United Nations Children's Fund in the Kyrgyz Republic (UNICEF) and with the assistance of the Center for Social Integration as part of the implementation of the United Nations Peacebuilding Fund project "Unity in Diversity."
This seminar continues the consistent work of MoES KR to enhance the capacity of educational organizations for the implementation of multilingual education programs within the framework of the National Strategy for Sustainable Development of the Kyrgyz Republic for the period 2013-2017, the Concept of Strengthening National Unity and Interethnic Relations in the Kyrgyz Republic, the National Program for the Development of the State Language and Improvement of Language Policy in the Kyrgyz Republic for 2014-2020, the Education Development Strategy of the Kyrgyz Republic for 2012-2020, and the Concept of Multicultural and Multilingual Education in the Kyrgyz Republic.
