Kyrgyz Language and Culture to be Studied in Chinese Universities

The Kyrgyz language and culture will be studied at universities in China

Heads of educational institutions agreed on the implementation of a dual diploma project under the "2+2" scheme

A meeting took place in the capital of Kyrgyzstan between the rector of Bishkek Humanities University, Professor Abdylda Musaev, and a delegation from the Beijing Central University of Nationalities led by Rector Huang Taiyan. The heads of the educational institutions agreed on the implementation of a dual diploma project under the "2+2" scheme, where students study for 2 years at BGU and 2 years at the Beijing Central University of Nationalities.

BGU already has experience in training specialists within the framework of such international projects. Thus, in 2017, the first graduation took place at BGU as part of a project by the Government of China. In addition, the rectors discussed the issue of opening a Center for Kyrgyz Language and Culture at the Beijing Central University of Nationalities.

– The teaching of the Kyrgyz language at the Beijing Central University of Nationalities indicates the consistent development of cooperation in this area, as well as the growing interest in Kyrgyzstan in the Chinese language and literature, and in China – in the Kyrgyz language, culture, customs, and traditions. I am confident that today's visit by the rector of the Beijing Central University of Nationalities, Mr. Huang Taiyan, will serve to activate interaction in the field of education and science and will contribute to the further expansion of cooperation and partnership between our universities, – noted Abdylda Musaev.

For his part, Huang Taiyan emphasized that the main goal of the Beijing Central University of Nationalities is to build a world-class university of nationalities, which fully aligns with the interests of partner universities. An agreement was previously reached to open a cultural center "Kyrgyzstan" based at the Beijing Foreign Studies University. In addition, in the 2018-19 academic year, the university plans to open groups for studying the Kyrgyz language.

It should be noted that BGU also has a Center for Kyrgyz Language and Culture at the Moscow State Linguistic University, which has successfully operated for 10 years.
