President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov recently shared his views on the pressing issue of reforming the State Committee for National Security (GKNB) of the country in an interview with the Kabar agency.
When asked about the possibility of returning the security service to its previous model, focused solely on intelligence and counterintelligence activities, the president responded that the GKNB has successfully fulfilled its assigned tasks.
“Moreover, in some aspects, it has even exceeded expectations. However, state structures, like a living organism, must constantly adapt and evolve. The challenges of yesterday's national security are no longer relevant; today we face entirely different tasks,” Japarov noted.
He also added that in light of new realities, a quality reform will be implemented in the GKNB aimed at responding to modern threats and global changes.
“The world is constantly changing, and our state institutions must keep pace with this progress and renew themselves,” the president emphasized.
