In February 2026, the Pervomaisky District Court in the capital of Kyrgyzstan sentenced 41-year-old Ernis Zheentaev to six years in prison under Articles 278 Part 3 and 332 Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic, related to calls for mass riots and the distribution of extremist materials, respectively.

A designer by profession, Zheentaev was detained in November 2025, after which a criminal case was initiated against him, culminating in a guilty verdict. His lawyer and relatives plan to appeal this decision in higher courts.

Currently, the convicted individual is in a detention center in Bishkek.

According to his relatives, Zheentaev's mother, who suffered from a serious illness, passed away on February 27. The family is requesting the court to allow him to attend the funeral, which will take place on February 28 in the village of Temir, located in the Issyk-Kul region.
