The Iranian state television company IRIB has confirmed the information regarding the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who became a victim of an airstrike carried out by U.S. and Israeli forces on February 28. As a result of this attack, the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Mohammad Pakpour and the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani were also killed.
A 40-day mourning period has been declared in the country, and the upcoming week will be announced as a non-working week. Iran will be temporarily governed by a council that includes President Masoud Pezeshkian, the head of the judiciary, and a representative of the Guardian Council. It is expected that the Assembly of Experts, consisting of 88 clerics, will determine the new Supreme Leader.
