Two patients per bed. In Kyrgyzstan, there is an acute shortage of space and doctors for cancer patients

The National Oncology Center is facing a critical shortage of space, necessitating the construction of new buildings. This information was announced at the Institute of the Ombudsman following a monitoring assessment conducted in this medical institution.

According to human rights defenders, the workload at the National Oncology Center is increasing annually. In reality, there are two patients per bed, which forces some patients to undergo infusion therapy in chairs due to a lack of space.

As experts from the Ombudsman Institute emphasize, the situation is exacerbated by the lack of oncological assistance in the regions. For example, in the Osh region, there are only 15 beds available for chemotherapy and simple operations. In cities like Jalal-Abad, Tokmok, and Batken, patients with mild forms of diseases are primarily accepted. The situation is even more critical in the Naryn region, where there are no oncologist specialists.

Similar problems are observed in the children's department of oncology and hematology at the National Center for the Protection of Motherhood and Childhood. As of the end of August 2025, about 60 children were receiving treatment in the NCPCM, and their living conditions also remain extremely difficult.

The Ombudsman Institute emphasizes that the lack of inpatient capacity and the uneven distribution of oncological assistance across regions pose serious risks for timely and quality treatment of patients, which requires a systemic solution at the state level.
