According to data presented at a recent briefing, mental health issues continue to escalate not only in Kyrgyzstan but also worldwide. Nurgul Ibraeva, head of the primary healthcare department at the Ministry of Health, emphasized the importance of this topic, referencing statements from the World Health Organization about the global nature of this problem.

In light of this, the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic is focusing on mental health issues and the development of psychiatric care.

She noted that among non-communicable diseases, such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and oncology, mental health ranks fifth.

As of January 1, 2025, according to official data from the Center for Electronic Health, over 50,000 people with psychiatric disorders have been registered. Analyzing the dynamics over the last three years, it can be seen that annually between 3,000 to 4,500 patients receive a first-time diagnosis of a mental disorder, Ibraeva added.

The annual growth in the number of such patients is 10–11%. According to her, starting from 2021, there has been a trend of increase, with around 3,000 patients in that year and approximately 5,000 by 2024.
