In Kyrgyzstan, a nationwide health month called "Be Responsible!" has been announced, focusing on identifying the risk of non-communicable diseases among men over 18 years old. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic.
As part of this initiative, men are advised to visit local primary healthcare facilities, such as Family Medicine Centers, General Practice Centers, family doctor groups, and rural health posts, for preventive consultations.
The results of last year's campaign were impressive: over 973,000 men across the country underwent preventive screening for non-communicable diseases. More than 119,600 men (12%) were diagnosed with elevated blood pressure. Additionally, 49,600 men (5%) were found to be at high risk for cardiovascular diseases, while about 60,800 men (6%) were at risk for diabetes.
In 2025, there were 15,388 new cases of hypertension and 7,364 cases of diabetes registered. Furthermore, that same year, cardiovascular diseases were responsible for 16,644 deaths among the adult population of the country.
This initiative was launched in 2019 as part of the project "Effective Management and Prevention of Non-Communicable Diseases in Kyrgyzstan," which is funded by Switzerland. The health month is held annually under the auspices of the Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan.
Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) include chronic diseases such as cardiovascular, oncological, chronic respiratory diseases, and diabetes. The main preventable risk factors include unhealthy diet, smoking, alcohol abuse, and low physical activity.
The project "Effective Management and Prevention of Non-Communicable Diseases in Kyrgyzstan," funded by the Swiss government, aims to improve the health and well-being of the population by ensuring equal access to quality primary healthcare services and promoting a healthy lifestyle. This project is being implemented throughout the country.
