In Bishkek, the prevention, early diagnosis, and control of arterial hypertension and diabetes were discussed.
During the event, the results of a study concerning the treatment, adherence, and awareness of patients with arterial hypertension and type 2 diabetes in primary healthcare in Kyrgyzstan were presented. The findings will help improve the quality of treatment and inform the population about the importance of self-monitoring.
The study covered 1,996 patients suffering from arterial hypertension and 1,101 patients with type 2 diabetes, and an analysis of their outpatient records was conducted.
The results indicated serious issues with treatment adherence: only 43% of patients with type 2 diabetes and 38% with arterial hypertension regularly take their prescribed medications. Many miss doctor appointments, irregularly undergo tests, and self-adjust their treatment.
Among patients with type 2 diabetes, 76% are aware of their blood sugar levels, but only 23% know about glycated hemoglobin – an important indicator of treatment effectiveness. More than 79% of them have elevated levels of this indicator, indicating insufficient disease control. At the same time, 77% of patients with arterial hypertension regularly measure their blood pressure, but 44% still have high readings. More than 90% are unaware of their cholesterol levels, which is an important indicator of cardiovascular disease risk.
The round table paid special attention to the presentation of the program for the prevention and control of arterial hypertension in Kyrgyzstan for 2026-2030, developed by the National Center for Cardiology and Therapy. The main goal of this program is to create an accessible and effective system for the early detection and control of arterial hypertension.
Participants in the event expressed support for the national initiative "Check Your Health."
