According to endocrinologist Albina Kenjesarieva from the National Center for Maternal and Child Health, 2% to 5% of all cases of diabetes occur in children, and this figure continues to grow each year, as she noted on the air of "Birinchi Radio."

Although there is no official statistics on this issue, Kenjesarieva mentioned that in Kyrgyzstan, one in ten children suffers from excess weight, and among children under 5 years old, this percentage reaches 7%.

The endocrinologist pointed out that type 2 diabetes can be inherited, while type 1 can develop even in families where there have been no previous cases of the disease.

One of the reasons for the occurrence of excess weight in children is improper eating habits and routines within the family. According to Kenjesarieva, parents often say during appointments that their children eat irregularly, buying fast food while they are at work.

She also added that children born with excess weight are at risk for developing diabetes and should be monitored by doctors.

"Parents should keep an eye on their children's weight and the amount of fluid they consume. There is no prevention for type 1 diabetes, but early detection of symptoms allows for timely treatment and helps avoid complications," concluded Kenjesarieva.
