According to information provided by psychiatrist Yulia Ulitina on the air of "Birinchi Radio," Kyrgyz citizens are increasingly seeking help for symptoms of depression, insomnia, panic attacks, and post-traumatic stress disorders.

She noted that the number of patients with such complaints has significantly increased. "Every year we observe a growing number of requests. Currently, our department has 80 patients undergoing inpatient treatment, and all beds are occupied. Some patients are even willing to wait for their turn for hospitalization. There is also a seasonal trend: in spring and autumn, the number of depressive states increases. Previously, we recorded about 50-60 hospitalizations, but after the COVID-19 pandemic, this number has risen," Ulitina said.

The age range of patients varies from 19 to 70 years. "Unfortunately, there is a strong stigma in our society. Many patients openly admit that they are afraid to visit psychiatric institutions. They fear that acquaintances or relatives might see them and think they have mental health issues. At the same time, they do not realize that such a condition can lead to more serious consequences, including suicidal thoughts," the doctor added.

Ulitina also pointed out that patients often postpone visiting a doctor, hoping that the problem will resolve itself, and seek help only in advanced cases.

According to Health Minister Erkin Checheybaev, 11% of the population in Kyrgyzstan suffers from various mental disorders. For the first time in many years, a National Mental Health Strategy is being developed in the country.
