According to a recent study, more than 68% of the population of Kyrgyzstan (specifically 68.3%) do not engage in regular physical activity. This percentage is particularly high among women, where it reaches 92.8%. This data was presented by Deputy Minister of Health Bubuzhan Arykbaeva in her report "Trends in the Prevalence of Non-Communicable Diseases and Their Risk Factors Based on the Results of STEPS 1 and STEPS 2 Studies Over 10 Years."

Moreover, 75.9% of the population does not meet the minimum recommended WHO guidelines for fruit and vegetable consumption.

Physical activity, as defined by the WHO, includes any body movements produced by skeletal muscles that require energy expenditure. This can pertain to all types of movements, including those that occur during rest, travel, or performing household chores. Both moderate and vigorous physical activity can significantly improve health. Walking, cycling, sports, and active games are popular forms of physical activity available to people of all fitness levels.

According to the WHO, regular physical activity brings significant benefits to both physical and mental health.

“Physical activity in adults helps prevent and treat non-communicable diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and diabetes, as well as reduces symptoms of depression and anxiety, improves brain function, and can enhance overall well-being,” emphasize the organization's experts.
