According to the report by Deputy Minister of Health Bubuzhan Arykbaeva, a study conducted in 2023 under the STEPS program showed that every third resident of Kyrgyzstan suffers from high blood pressure. The report presents data on the trends in the prevalence of non-communicable diseases and risk factors over the past ten years based on STEPS 1 and STEPS 2 studies.

The level of arterial hypertension in the country is 32.3%, which is lower than in 2013 when this figure reached 42.9%. The decrease is associated with a reduction in several behavioral risk factors, such as smoking and alcohol consumption.

For people aged 40-69 years, the prevalence of hypertension reaches 51.9%, while among youth aged 18-39 years, this figure is 18.8%.

High blood pressure is a major risk factor for mortality from cardiovascular diseases. Despite a slight improvement in blood pressure control (from 2.6% in 2013 to 7.9% in 2023), most patients are either unaware of their condition, do not receive the necessary treatment, or the treatment proves ineffective.
