The incident took place on October 23 near the village of Ortakent, when a rubber boat carrying illegal migrants sank. It is known that two people were rescued; however, one of the survivors reported that there were 18 people on board at the time of the tragedy. Currently, two migrants are listed as missing.
Bodrum is located near the Greek islands, which often become a target for refugees seeking to enter the European Union. According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), more than 1,400 migrants have died in the Mediterranean Sea since the beginning of the year. Last year, according to IOM data, more than 2,400 people were victims of similar incidents.
