Strong earthquake in Afghanistan - 7 dead, about 150 injured

This morning, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 struck the northern part of the city of Mazar-i-Sharif, located in Afghanistan.

According to information provided by Reuters, the death toll stands at least at 7 people, while the number of injured has reached around 150.

According to the Afghan Geological Survey, the epicenter of the tremors was located approximately 28 kilometers from Mazar-i-Sharif, and the depth of the hypocenter was 28 kilometers. The population of the city is estimated to be 523,000 people.

Seismic waves were felt in neighboring countries such as Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. In Dushanbe, residents reported strong and prolonged tremors, while in the Surkhandarya region of Uzbekistan, the intensity was about 5 points, and in Tashkent, it was 2-3 points.

Rescue operations, provision of first aid, and assessment of the damage are ongoing at the incident site. Data is being collected on destroyed buildings, affected areas, and potential aftershocks.
