Starting from October 28, hurricane "Melissa" struck the populations of Caribbean countries, claiming the lives of at least 49 people, according to data from the Associated Press.
According to the latest reports, 40 fatalities have been recorded in Haiti, while another 10 people are considered missing. In Jamaica, the death toll stands at eight, and in the Dominican Republic, one person has died and one is missing.
Media reports indicate that the hurricane caused significant destruction in Cuba, Jamaica, and Haiti, leaving thousands without electricity and forcing many to evacuate.
It is worth noting that hurricane "Melissa" is one of the most powerful hurricanes ever recorded in the Atlantic. It reached Jamaica on October 28 as a Category 5 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale, with wind speeds reaching 295 kilometers per hour.
