On October 22, a fire broke out at the landfill in the village of Kozhomkul, which sparked active discussions on social media and in the mass media.

According to the data from the Ministry of Natural Resources of Kyrgyzstan, on October 23, inspectors from the Chui Regional Office of the Environmental and Technical Supervision Service went to the scene to conduct an inspection and clarify the circumstances of the incident.

“During the inspection, it was established that the area of the fire was approximately 50 square meters. As a result of the inspection, an administrative protocol was drawn up against the responsible party for an amount of 23,000 soms for non-compliance with environmental standards in the operation of the waste disposal facility. A discussion was also held with the management of the municipal enterprise about the necessity of complying with environmental safety requirements. In this regard, instructions were given to install video surveillance, strengthen fencing, and equip the entrance with barriers to prevent repeated incidents and unauthorized access to the territory,” the official statement clarified.
