The hurricane "Melissa" caused the displacement of about 15,000 residents of Jamaica to temporary shelters. As a result of the storm, 530,000 households were left without electricity, with a total population of the country at 2.8 million people. In the capital, Kingston, authorities also warned of the possible appearance of crocodiles that left their usual habitats due to flooding.

The storm passed through Jamaica in less than a day and is already moving north towards Cuba, where it is expected to make landfall on the morning of October 29. Earlier, an evacuation of 735,000 people was conducted on the island. After Cuba, the hurricane will head towards the Bahamas.

In the hurricane's wake, three people died in Jamaica, three in Haiti, and one in the Dominican Republic, where one disappearance has also been reported.

According to data from the Jamaican meteorological service, "Melissa" is the largest hurricane ever recorded on the island, with maximum wind speeds at the center reaching 295 km/h.

Furthermore, this hurricane became the second fastest hurricane by wind speed among all hurricanes that have made landfall in the Atlantic in recorded history. The only stronger winds were from the tropical cyclone "Allen" in 1980, as reported by the Associated Press.
