Zoo volunteers working in the Chernobyl exclusion zone reported the appearance of dogs with an unusual blue coat color. This was reported by the Daily Mail.

According to information from the group "Dogs of Chernobyl," at least one dog has been found with fur completely dyed blue, marking the first case of this kind in the history of observations. Volunteers note that this has not been seen before, and they are now planning to capture these animals for further study. Specialists suggest that the change in fur color may be related to exposure to chemicals, but the exact reasons still need to be determined.

The dogs appear healthy and active. Since 2017, volunteers have been helping around 700 dogs living in the exclusion zone, providing them with food and medical assistance. Most of them are descendants of pets left behind during the evacuation of residents in 1986.

Scientists continue to study the fate of animals in Chernobyl. As a result of a previous study conducted in 2024, it was found that dogs living near the nuclear power plant have adapted over time and developed resistance to radiation and heavy metal contamination, allowing them to survive in extreme conditions devoid of human presence.
