Media reported a threat to the tomb of Tutankhamun: Egypt spoke about its condition

A report about the destruction of the tomb appeared in the Daily Mail, where it was claimed, citing scientists, that cracks and mold had developed inside due to increased humidity.

The Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Mohamed Ismail Khaled, emphasized that this information is not true: "The tomb is well-preserved and is not under threat. No changes in its structure or walls have been observed," he noted in an official statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.

The ministry also reported on the regular monitoring of the tomb's condition, which is carried out in cooperation with the American Getty Center, a key partner in its preservation project.

Ismail Khaled added that scientific research and examinations conducted by the institute have not revealed any changes or deterioration in the condition of the tomb since its opening in November 1922.

In Egypt, it is believed that the studies mentioned in foreign news are based on inaccurate data or even pertain to a tomb other than that of Tutankhamun (KV62).

The tomb was discovered in 1922 by English archaeologist Howard Carter in the Valley of the Kings. Inside, the mummy of Pharaoh Tutankhamun was found, who died around 1327 BC. To this day, the mummy and most of the artifacts from the tomb are housed in the Cairo Museum.
