From 2020 to 2024, there has been a slight decline in the coverage of children vaccinated against poliomyelitis in Kyrgyzstan, as reported by the Republican Center for Immunoprophylaxis.

According to the center, thanks to the efforts of organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, and the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI), millions of children have received protection against this disease, and the number of cases has decreased by more than 99%.

‎"Kyrgyzstan continues to actively work to maintain its status as a polio-free country. Significant attention is paid to conducting both planned and additional immunization campaigns, monitoring the conditions for vaccine storage, and informing the public about the importance of vaccination. However, the latest data raises concerns," specialists emphasize.

‎According to medical recommendations, to establish herd immunity and prevent possible importation or re-emergence of the poliovirus, vaccination coverage must be at least 95%.

Specialists note: "A decrease in vaccination rates below the recommended level increases the risk of disease emergence."

‎"Vaccination saves lives! All children should receive complete courses of polio vaccines according to the established vaccination schedule," urged the Republican Center for Immunoprophylaxis.
