The draft national program "Үмүт" concerning the implementation of prenatal screening for the period 2025-2030 has been put forward for public discussion. The developer is the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The document states that the goal of the project is to strengthen the health of mothers and children, early detection and prevention of hereditary and chromosomal diseases, as well as improving the accessibility and quality of medical care at all stages of pregnancy, taking into account both national and international recommendations.

Previously, the Ministry of Health presented a new provision on early disease detection.

According to the justification report, the introduction of prenatal screening in the country is a pressing necessity. "Prenatal diagnostic programs have great potential to improve the quality of life of the population and achieve progress in ensuring access to medical services. With well-organized prenatal diagnostics, it is possible to prevent diseases and reduce the level of disability not only among children but also among the entire population, as well as decrease perinatal and child mortality," the document emphasizes.

Specialists note that in the absence of a unified screening mechanism, pregnant women in Kyrgyzstan undergo examinations irregularly, which complicates timely diagnosis and reduces the chances for necessary medical intervention, leading to an increase in cases of newborn disability.

The proposed system includes biochemical and ultrasound screening in the first and second trimesters of pregnancy, with further referral of high-risk women for in-depth examination and genetic counseling.

It is planned that the opened centers will be responsible for conducting screening for all pregnant women in their regions.

A mandatory requirement is equipping institutions with modern expert-class ultrasound machines and automatic biochemical analyzers, which will allow conducting the necessary number of tests while adhering to high-quality standards.

As stated in the document, digital registration of all stages of screening will allow tracking the status of each pregnant woman, controlling examination timelines, and preventing cases of loss of clinical contact. The program also includes the integration of screening data into a unified database accessible to specialists in obstetrics, gynecology, and neonatology.
